There are many carts availble these days. Im looking for a free good shopping cart that has a interface design so i can create my own skin rather than using a template or im looking for a dreamweaver extension. Can anyone provide some help. Thanks

Hope this is allowed "replying to an old thread", I have learned a lot since the first post in all aspects of design and development.

Best Open Source Carts used lately that are Free:

MagentoCommerce.com "the best!"
PrestaShop.com "good platform"
StoreSprite "seems to be pretty decent"

You can also try fat free cart (fatfreecart.com). It has a code generator feature, which lets you generate code for each product separately according to each item.

Have a look at http://www.prestashop.com/ this is also a very good script, and best of all free.

FatFree cart is good if you only know html however it is not a good shopping cart unless you are an ebay seller and have 1 or 2 items for sale.

PrestaShop is a very good ecommerce application as well, as stated in my thread...

MagentoCommerce.com "the best!"
PrestaShop.com "good platform"
StoreSprite "seems to be pretty decent"

osCommerce, that's the only free shopping cart that I know but there's a lot of paid shopping cart that I could recommend if you want.

osCommerce is outdated and so are other programs like Zen Cart, that is the past.

We need to focus on the technology that is new and emerging...

MagentoCommerce.com "the best!"
PrestaShop.com "good platform"
StoreSprite "seems to be pretty decent"

Magenta and Prestashop are the best, large companies use Magento though.

Go to http://www.oscmax.com. It's an upgraded version of Oscommerce and has a built-in affiliate program.

A note about Magento...You need a dedicated server to run it. I tried installing it and my host told me it wasn't permitted on my type of hosting account and my database programmer confirmed the requirement Magento doesn't list on their system requirements. I was very disappointed because it has a beautiful backend interface that would have been easy for clients to work with.

TripleMoons, this is ussually the case however, in the newer versions it does not happen as much, I have installed Magento on GoDaddy for a client with no issues however the website did not get a lot of daily page views.

Dalex, aren't you new to the whole web design and development department?

I am telling you what my host and my database programmer (who has worked in the computer field for 10 years) said. Yes, you can get away with installing it, but as soon as things pick up they'll boot it.

If you need very easy SC have a look at Cube Cart. 3rd version is still free. OSCommerce is your choice if you need something more complex. Have a look at osCMax also. Never used it but it is looking pretty cool.

In all honesty, you will not get anything good for free. I am saying this from personal experience. I eventually gave up on my website because I had limited capabilities with a free shopping car extension. I eventually paid some money and bought one, and it gave me much more capability. To run a website, you have to be willing to spend a bit.
