Was wondering what the standard salary for a PHP programmer is in.. lets say the US? I know there are alot of americans in this forum, so someone must know?

I know it depends on how long you've worked as a programmer and so on.. but giv me some numbers.

legallink is right on the money (pun intended). If you want to make more than that, you will have to have a portfolio of professional sites you've done and be an expert.

Is that with a computer science degree? Or just with some certification?

Wow. That's half the salary of a Seattle area mid-level asp.net developer? A janitor could put C# on their resume and make $80 k a year easily.

There's a web site called salary.com, I believe, that gives you the min and max, average, and other statistics for compensation for a broad range of jobs, broken out by area. Might be worth a look...?

To make the money with PHP, I think your going to have to know AJAX. Many shops that use PHP also want programmers to know ASP, .NET, and/or Java. There is no one hat fits all language though some places use one of the big three (.NET, Java, or PHP) for their applications.

If you want to earn more, you need to build Great Sites which you can show to others. If you can develop/create something which others can't, that is the GATE to charge insane amount of money from your clients.

I know coders(actually demigods) who charge $15k to even touch a project.

By the way, its time to start building your portfolio and start working on CMS's and web frameworks.

Just remember, we are talking entry level = no experience. You demonstrate experience, salary goes up.

Also you should affiliate yourself with a good webhost. Webhosts are oftent times asked for webdesign. I generaly give off the clients as I dont have time for a commission of there order. Be friends with a few webhosts.
