I've been considering selling my blog (in the sig, Toptenlisted.com) over the past few days. What would be the best way to get a good estimate on how much it is worth? Are there any services that evaluate sites for free? Do customers care about other things besides site content, such as no. of backlinks, pagerank, etc.? (I know most people shouldn't worry about those numbers, but they do appeal to some prospective buyers, right?)

Or alternatively, does anyone here have a good idea of how much it might sell for? They would get everything in the deal, the domain name, the site content, etc. It’d be for the entire package. I don't want to sell if the offers are really low, I've put a lot of work into it. Plus I don't want to list it in the "Websites for Sale" Forum until I'm absolutely sure its what I want to do.

But, If I do decide to sell it........
How exactly do I transfer the content to them? Just give them all my current passwords for it?

I’m not really a business expert here, and I’ve never “sold” a website to anyone before. I'm just not quite sure how to calculate an estimate worth of the site, and what factors to include when I, or someone else, appraises it. If anyone has any advice, or if they could add any other important information I may be missing, to their response, I’d appreciate it.

There are some but most of them use imaginary numbers to value things. (such as backlinks, PR, Alexa rank etc)

The real value is the same as it would be for any business

Content transfer can be done two ways basically,

Turn over the hosted site to the buyer and let them move the hosting and scripts etc should they wish to.
or
Export the database to flat files for importing and zip up all the scripts then transfer the files via whatever medium is acceptable to both parties.

A big area in the US is site valuation. It takes a fare amount of time, but as Chris stated, it is often based on assigning value to things like PR, backlinks, etc. The biggest factor is going to be traffic. I do this type of thing all the time.

And the transfer will usually be dependent upon how the buyer wants to do it. Provided there are no additional security issues.

Well you can go and put it on forums like WT, DP, SP and can get a good estimation. Normally sites go for 8x to 12x of monthly revenue unless it is very well established.

I realize I could do that, but like I said before, I have lots of good, original content, but I haven't spent tons of time promoting my site, so the traffic numbers, revenue, etc. wont be that high. That's another reason I created the thread, to see how much my site "could" go for, and be appraised.

Plus you aren't allowed to post in the marketplace if you aren't 100% how much you are willing to sell the website for, or even selling the website at all.

based on your pr and alexa rank and assuming you have negligible revenue, i think you can get upto $200.

There are plenty of sites that will give you an instant valuation although i tend to think that it would be worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it old chestnut i know but very true.
