Besides buying a website and growing it, what are some good ways to make good money by first having to invest large sums ($5000-10,000)?

I'm not a noob, I just don't know what to invest in. I've done many things such as Affiliate Marketing, flipping websites, and want to start a business or another way to achieve a good steady income.

There are several entries for developers and designers looking for "entrepeneurs". You could possibly meet somebody on there and fund their project.

You already mentioned the best way though. Buying a site that is not being properly monetized, and growing it. It's probably safer than the above site that I listed.

S&P 500 based mutual fund.
Small to medium cap mutual funds.
Foreign currency funds.

Seriously, though, if you have any debt at the moment, I'd pay that off as soon as you can. If you don't have any debt and you want to do something on the internet, I'd subscribe to some of the tech blogs out there. Read them for a while and you'll probably find an idea or two inspired by an article or comment somewhere. Once you have that, you can hire a coder or two from a freelance site and have them implement it for you.
