I am currently involved in negotiating a price for a website i would like to buy...once i buy it, how do i ensure that the seller will give me the site after i pay? Whats keeping him from taking my money and not giving me the site? And can someone explain the process of making his site mine (its a forum) i.e. domain transfer / database transfers ect?

If you're worried it you might want to go through a site broker who'll hold the money in escrow until the domain and site transfer goes through. They'll charge for the service so depending on the price you're paying for the site it may or may not be worth it.

I'm not familiar enough with any of these sites to be able to recommend one, but if you look up 'website brokers' or similar you'll find a lot of results.

Yes, as per "Vangogh" suggestion you can use escrow services.

Further you need to check the domain name whois record for all registrant, admin, billing etc. all should have your contact details specially your email id etc.

Further all data & script you need to copy to your hosting control and point domain to it. Once every thing in order check total functioning of web site and forums and random data check .
