I have been looking at various e-commerce packages with shopping carts and payment gateways, but I haven't found one that supports digital downloads.

I want customers to be able to buy credits and then use those credits to download content from my site (video tutorials, code packages, etc.).

I was hoping to find something out there that I could get up and running quickly, but I think I'm gonna have to custom build something.

Unless anyone has a recommendation...?

First off, go Open Source! Second, Ubercart. Ubercart is the open source ecommerce package for the Drupal CMS. It works perfect for selling down loadable content. There is definitely alot out there in this area. You shouldn't have to build something from scratch. Another option is Magento.

Use Oscommerce it s the best best... which is used worldwide and has the best support on forums... which I charge in a country ** for a shop with oscommerce $2000, but its actually free opensource...

I have been using Drupal ECommerce on my site for quite some time and really like it. I have not read it but I have seen some good reviews of a book written for ecommerce on Packt Publishing.

There are lots of features in ecommerce.

Zen Cart is based off of OSC and far superior in my never-humble opinion. http://www.zen-cart.com/

I've also been looking for an E-commerce solution. I want to to learn one, currently i'm still a little confused with adding gateways and merchant accounts etc.
Some of the suggestions on this thread look helpful. The only CMS that I know is Textpattern and there are currently no good eCommerce plugins for that although there are some in development.
I bought a book on osCommerce. I'm now quite familiar with it but it is quite time consuming to make changes and it's all in tables. I hope V3 will be realeased sooner rather than later.
That Zen Cart looks quite good. I had not seen that before. There are quite a few book for it on Amazon. I may take a look at this.
magentocommerce looks the best but it looks to be a profit organization, plus I can't find any books on it.
Drupal ECommerce looks good but i'm now stuck with Textpattern. I guess it's not worth learning a new CMS.

Zen cart is good, but if you are a complete noob then go with a yahoo solution as they are pretty easy to set up

Looks like you're trying to get banned Sarah. Your history of posts isn't doing so hot on this forum either...Really a human?

Back on topic, I've been looking at Ubercart for Drupal too. Don't have much to comment on it, but it looks worthwhile.

Thanks for your recommendation of Zen Cart Jeremy. I downloaded it today and had a look around. It looks better and easier to manage than osCommerce. Plus it's all XHTML and CSS unlike osCommerce. I'm going to jump from osCommerce to Zen cart.

Hi - Im also looking for a solution for a new client. Previously Ive used a flash based program I bug found for years ago (FexCart) - it integrates with PayPal - but a new client wants something else. And to be honest? I generally just make pretty pictures ....

Solution Id looked at was "cubecart" with PayPal Pro - Id love to hear others thoughts. I need whatever solution to be very customisable, & to allow a flash header. Im trying to encourage the client to get an Internet Merchant account with client bank - but am I doing the right thing?

All advice *very* welcome - Im outta my comfort zone!

We like Zencart which is free. Integrates into Quickbooks and other software packages that will make Online Commerce efficient and effective.

I typically recommend Magento or Prestashop. I don't consider zen cart to be a professional solution. It is just a bit better than Oscommerce, which an utter disaster.

hope that helps,
Nigel

I also recommend Prestashop. I have only recently started using it and i have to say i love it. Great for small online stores and easy to install. Its great for people new to e-commerce.

I tried zencart... i found it to bulky for my needs, but it was a good program.
