I am looking to build a website (shopping cart) for a business that does about 6,000.00 in sales per month. There are about 300 items for sale and I want to accept credit cards.

I have pretty good html experience but have never done any e-commerce stuff or anthing with a SSL cert.

Any suggestions? I have looked at godaddy but it's about 75 bucks a month... yahoo seems much cheaper at 39 per month... Please help.

I just started working building a e-commerce solution into wordpress. This works like a charm. It includes everything like paying with credit card, calculating tax prices, shipping etc...

I don't know if you have any experience using wordpress and if you can use it but it was really easy for me setting up a nice online shop. I don't have a link because i am developing the site at this moment.

Have you tried working in a 'free environment' first? Meaning setup a paypal account, or 2checkout or another free account, and use free web hosting and market first, work from there.

Why does the original post NOT sound entirely factual??

IF you are running at $6000.00 a month in sales,

Why the are you quibbling about a few dollars a month on hosting????

Your FIRST priority should be the stability and security NOT the price.

Because it's not 6,000.00 in profit. But yes, I am looking for that first and foremost, but even more than that, I am looking at ease of setup since I haven't done this before. I am not asking for something for nothing, I am just asking for help and what is the best deal out there that also works.

Have a look at easystorecreator.com. It has good features and customer service with 45 days trial period.

well just checkout whichever software your web host provides

A lot of webhosts have pre installed installation scripts in there control panels where you can install something like cubecart, oscommerce, zencart

if you are unsure call your hosting provider, there are a lot of free shopping carts out there

another option is to build the website with whatever software you are used to or hand coding and then just add the coding for paypal's shoping cart. its a little time consuming though

I did some studies before of commercial ecommerce hosting packages. They will cost anywhere from $50-$200. MonsterCommerce (now apart of Network Solution) offers $49 for 300 items, whereas XCart Hosting is even more expensive.

No doubt there are free ecommerce scripts like OSCommerce that you can try out. Since they are always free to use, the drawbacks will need you to spend more time to work on the technical.

Maybe you can look at my package Super eCommerce for $19.95/month

A hosting plan with shared ssl would be the cheapest route to go. I would then use something like Magento or Prestashop. Magento is a bit harder to get rolling but is the most powerful thing around currently.

http://www.magentocommerce.com/ check the blog and screencasts
http://www.prestashop.com/ is considerably easier to get your head around but is still quite slick.

hope that helps,
Nigel
