Hey Guys

I was approached by a man I work with today about an idea. As the web designer at this company, I am expected to know everything, which I unfortunately don't.

Basically, this man runs a small e-commerce business on the side where he sells used DVD's. Right now, he does it all through eBay, Overstock, Amazon, etc. etc. but is looking to build his own store. Easy enough, right? I thought so.. then he continued.

Rather than a simple affiliate marketing system where you would get a link to direct people to the page and get a cut, he wants people to be able to open their own stores, under their own names, and have him handle the order processing, shipping, etc. He wants to be a drop shipper, but not have people select which of his products to sell. He wants to give people access to his own store but be able to switch the logos and customize it. Then it would work like a normal affiliate program where you would get a % of the sale.

Does this make sense? I can elaborate more if not. Does anybody have any suggestions? I know how to set up the one store with an affiliate network, but not how to have it so other people can mask his site as their own. He wants to sort of make his own competition, but be profitting from it all. Nifty.

Checkout out Interspires cart system, it can be adapted as a multi vendor store. Also X-cart pro does the same.

I used to have a site in the past in which my customers would purchase products off my website that would be dropshipped from my supplier. The cart that I used was Pinnacle Cart. That was descent, and had many dropshipping options. I had the site from 2000 to @ 2005. I am sure you can accomplish what you want with Pinnacle cart.

You can check following free shopping carts: oscommerce, zencart, cre loaded and magento.

Magento took very appealing, but be aware of slow performance

SearchFit recently released some very well priced entry level solutions. We also support "subcarts" which sounds like the kind of thing you are looking for. It gives you the ability to process transactions from multiple stores through one cart backend. As well, we are now an authorized merchant processor.

Not that odd of a request. Think of how cafe press works. You will need custom coding and you should hire a coder to code the site and hen you design it.
