I don't see how anyone can get off the ground as a freelancer. I've managed to find a couple of small jobs, but I haven't had any paid freelance work for about 8 months now. I could do with making more of a name for myself I think, so I've emailed about 12 to 15 different local charities / companies offering them a free website and have had only ONE reply, and that was only to say that they would inform the company owner (I've not heard anything since).

So I'm thinking, if I can't even find people who want a website for free, how on earth do freelancers find clients who will pay hundreds of pounds for a static, 5 page, really basic looking website!?

My next idea is to start sending letters out to companies offering similar services together with a business card, although going by my current success rate my expectations are very low!

I on the other hand have the opposite problem, i have done a few websites over the years and i find that word of mouth is the best thing that brings me in business. I also have a full time job and it is hard to do both. I have recently posted in the marketplace looking to offload some of the owrk i get in from time to time.
I think its a case of the more work you have the more you get.
Saying that i remember when i didnt have a full time job and i couldn't get any web work for love or money.
If you ask me - someone up there is having a good laugh

@shonkyboy You know the old saying, "the reward for hard work is more work"
