In the past I have had a successful website design biz offering template customizations only. Three years ago, I sold my design biz (my 15+ clients) because I was first a homeschool Mom and the biz started to overtake my time.

I am currently looking to get back into the market, but am aware of the current economy. I understand that I will have to do biz differently. From my researched it appears the most possible chance of success will be to offer clients the ability to edit their own site after customization.

I have a very good technical background and use DW/FW & Flash myself. However, I don't expect my clients to be able to use these tools.

My questions to you:
1.) Can anyone suggest a simple CMS for non-techy people to use?
2.) This CMS should be able to be easily installed on top of pre-existing websites.
3.) If there are other ways for clients to easily edit their site once I've customize it, please do tell.

As you can see, my dilemma is to find a easy way for clients to update their own site with ease.

Thank you to all who take the time to reply.

Regards,
Monica

Have you considered Wordpress? It can usually be installed on existing sites, and is easy for novice users with a WYSIWYG editor built in to the admin page.

I recommend Joomla or drupal. Joomla might appear a bit tricky (just first impression) but both are good and working just great.
