How are you e-commerce businesses keeping track of tax in each state/zip code? So far I've came up with the option of a lot of reading, a lot of programming, and a lot of time that we're not making any money. Certainly there has to be a quicker way and cost effective? Can someone point me to a some type of literature that explains this in detail?

If it's of any relevance the shopping cart I am using is Magento.
Thanks,
Johnny

Interstate commerce shipments do not require the collection of sales tax unless you have a business location within that state so you should not be collecting tax on those sales.

I think those tax hungry liberal up in New York state passed or tried to pass some law requiring collection but I haven't heard any more about it.
