Re: Is it worth buying Small Domain names for business?
I just came across your post and as an experienced domain investor I thought I would leave my “pennies worth”.
Using Keyword Rich Domains
What would be more useful and effective is to buy domains with the following in mind:
1) Choose the following domain extensions, .Com, .Net or .Org.
2) If you live in a specific country, i.e. in the United Kingdom then buying a domain with that countries extension can often be worthwhile – in the case of the UK, .Co.Uk.
3) Its much more important and useful to find domain names that are keyword-rich and relevant to your business niche, i.e. if your business niche was providing free websites then MakeaFreeWebsite.org would be a great name to buy.
Why…? Let me illustrate
a) Make Free Website - It’s a keyword that people actually search for EVERY month, last count there were 40,400 searches for the EXACT phrase “Make Free Website”.
b) Cost Per Click Savings - Great way of saving money on your Cost Per Click budget with the likes of Google AdWords.
- The exact phrase “Make Free Website” on Google AdWords cost $4.98 PER CLICK!
- I’ll do the maths for you – Potentially the cost per month for this very popular keyword phrase is $201,192 PER MONTH – totally crazy!
Your best solution
Once you’ve found a keyword rich domain name(s) that is relevant to you business niche I would suggest that you did the following or you have it done professionally:
a) WordPress Blog - Create a WordPress Blog on your new keyword-rich domain name
- Add the following basic content pages, About Us, Contact Us, Privacy Policy and Terms and Condition.
b) Content - Add unique content relevant to your niche market on a regular base, or pay someone to write regular articles for your blog.
c) Meta Tags - Add basic Meta Tag information to your Blog, even if it’s only on the homepage its better than nothing.
d) SiteMap - Use a WordPress plug-in that created a SiteMap for your new Blog and make a submission to all the major search engines, i.e. Google, Yahoo and Bing (MSN).
e) Web 2.0 Backlinks - Last and very importantly build some important backlinks on a number of Web 2.0 properties, so you can benefit from their popularity with the likes of Google and get some important “link juice” going to your Blog.
- A few Web 2.0 sites to consider are livejournal.com, scribe.com, wikispaces.com, quizilla.com, xanga.com and vox.com.
Get Indexed
The most important thing is to make sure your new Blog site gets indexed as quickly as possible so your keyword rich domain will benefit from being a popular exact keyword phrase.
The SEO development required is very little and if you’re not good at SEO you can always contract the work out for a very modest cost.
I hope the above strategy helps and clarifies your original question.
All the best
