Well, apparently, the kind of shopping cart I am looking for is the one that supports product option/variation/attribute image.

I mean, when you add a product attribute, you can upload a certain thumbnail and image to it.

An example would be likes this
http://www.ninewest.com/Escher/45343...tColor=WHIMUFB

When you click in the color image, the main image of the product changes according to the one you selected.

Open source and free plugins are preferred.

Shopping carts I can work with and would be great if you could help me ~
* Interspire Shopping Cart
* Prestashop
* CS-Cart
* Cube Cart

ISC supports product option image, but what I want is a different upload for the thumbnail and main image...

CS Cart too, supports it, but when I click on the product option image, it doesn't change the main image...

Magento is a good shopping cart, and with some custom coding you can do what you need to do.

Hello,

CS-Cart may also support this with a small customization. You may contact us for details and we will be glad to discuss them.

I've heard good things about Interspire and CS-Cart as paid ecommerce solutions.

You might want to look at Magento and PrestaShop first.
They are the most popular (modern) open source platforms.

That is an easy add on for a yahoo store, but it's not available with the basic store.

Have you tried www.quickcart.com?

It's really easy to use, doesn't require any programming knowledge to design your store. Plus, you can integrate it into any pre-existing store.

If you're interested, try their free trial. It'll let you put together your store and, if you like it, you can upgrade that store to the full product without any extra work.

Magento is over-engineered. The complexity of it's development and bugginess as a high volume intentory/sales/customer system is at odds with all the hype around it.

When Magento is used for small shops on shared servers, it's a resource hog. I've had 2 sites booted off shared hosting for cpu/ram hogging. I have one magento shop on a VPS server that needs 1gig of ram to run and it's scarey buggy!

If you settle on Magento, fork out the bucks for decent hosting and keep inventory/customer/newsletter number down (say under 2000). When your records get into the 10's of 1000's, it's a pig of a system to admin (performance wise).
