It's a Magento site where the payment processing is done via PayPal Standard (i.e. redirected to the PayPal site).

So since no financial data is passed over the network, is there any point in getting SSL ?
I understand that there are some performance reductions from using SSL and I really don't want to slow down the site.

Not sure if the performance hit is really significant or not but I read somewhere that it can cause trouble with caching (which is really important in Magento)

The benefit is that is reassures the customer as joe bloggs believes that SSL makes it safer.

Just grab a godaddy SSL cert for peanuts....

But in the process makes your site slower, meaning you lose customers through a worst user experience.
