I am thinking of building a new website. The thing is I can handle most of the web design with exception of graphics.

I would like to build the site, doing all the coding myself and just hire a graphics specialist to do a graphical overlay. But I don't know if I would save enough money to make it worth my while.

Anyone have any ideas of how much this would cost? Just a general ballpark price for a logo and images for header, buttons, nav bars, etc.

I know I get what I pay for. But could I get a professional job for $300 or so?

Shadrach, there are many professional web designers that would take that bid, it's a decent offer.

The OP does not appear to be looking for offers to take on this task, which should be done in the context of the marketplace but merely inquiring if the suggested budget is sufficient.

I think it would be better if you could provide the layout or the specification of your project so you can get a better response.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm not seriously shopping for a graphics specialist for the project or anything. I just wanted to know how much to expect to pay.

So how exactly can you handle the design without the graphics, when the graphics are usually an integral part of the design?

Unless of course your site is all text in CSS cloloured boxes.

It would be difficult to say if your budget is adequate. It all depends whether your expectations are met. $300 would certainly find you designers for your work....

But do look for past projects a designer has worked on, so you will get an idea of their capabilities. If you find their work upto expectations and inside your budget, you could certainly move forward (asking for and checking up on the references a designer provides won't hurt though)

It might not be a good idea to get the header/buttons/navbar designed as separate objects. Ask the designer for an overall theme (provide him a general home page layout you want). You might want to look for a separate designer for the logo (you can google for logo specialists).

Also try to get the designer to slice the resulting design (which will produce the objects you require - buttons/header/navbar etc).
