I need some help with charging for websites
I make some websites in my sparetime for hotels
for example; removed

I want to start charging new hotels to make their websites for them, I know the one above is very simple but it was a free website so their was no problem

How much should I charge for Design, Hosting, and Taking Photos?
Does 200 for Design, 200 for Photos and 15/Month for Hosting and Domain sound good? Under, Higher?

I would host the websites on my server which costs 6$/a month for me, but i need to make some money somehow, so would charging the hotel 15$/a month for maintenance be fine?

And because I have never done anything which charges how would clients pay me, Would I invoice them and they send me a check?

Thanks for all assistance on this.

the cost of a website, like anything, should vary depending on the project at hand. A 5 page website, for example, with little functionality, should cost very little compared to a massive database driven website with a CMS.

drawing up a single payment structure will cause problems when clients inevitably want some extra functionality.

As for the hosting, see how much they would have to pay to host their own sites and charge accordingly.

BTW, this line of questioning I believe is illegal in the US, not sure about the EU. Discussing prices is seen as potentially price-fixing in the eyes of the law.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't price fixing occur when two or more organizations agree to set the price for a particular product or service in an effort to prevent competition from driving the price down?

I don't think one person trying to determine the value of a service they intend to provide qualifies as price fixing.

You can also figure some rough prices by visiting some template websites and you can also visit some picture stocks which also offer the bundle offers for this purpose.

I'm sure this discussion does not qualify as price fixing.

Anup - without knowing where you are offering your services, it is hard to judge whether your current charges are expensive/cheap. However, you might want to seek out other web designers in your area and determine what they charge as a gauge to your fees.

Then what you will say about this part? Isn't price fixing or estimating some figures?
