Hi,

Do you guys have SSL certificates for your ecommerce sites even if you do not directly process CC's e.g. use Paypal?

Personally, if I click 'checkout' and after do not see a padlock, I will close the window and shop elsewhere.

Thanks,

Jon

When speaking about an e-commerce website, it is highly recommended to have a SSL for your website.
Only sensitive personal or financial data actually needs to be encrypted.

It's very important specially on website that deals with payments. So in your case you really need it since it's an ecommerce site. And yes we also use SSL Cert.

eCommerce website has to be operated with an SSL certificate. As online transactions are carried on, people have to share their personal details; and it is important to safeguard this information. It Is preferable to get a dedicated SSL. If you want your customers to share their personal details or credit card details, then a dedicated SSL works much better. Dedicated SSL also shows that the SSL Certificate is in your company name and dedicated to your website.

A SSL certificate doe NOT "safeguard" users information, it only encrypts the communication between client browser and the server.

eCommerce sites do NOT HAVE to be operated with an SSL a cerificate is ONLY needed when handling customers financial data. If your site uses a payment processor such as PayPal, Worldpay, or authorise.net you do not need a certificate.
