There are several things that a business partner should have:
  • Vision- Your partner should share the same vision for the business. You should both know what direction the business is headed and what you want to do with it.
  • Skills- Your partner ideally should have a complementary skill set. It shouldn't be the exact same skills that you have- what's the point of that? You want his skills to be the ones that your business needs yet you are lacking. For example, you could be a great marketer but you need a programmer to build the prototype. Then you need to look for a coder, not a MBA!
  • Work- You two should know who will do what jobs. Make sure the work is divided fairly. There's nothing worse than a lazy partner who expects to get paid for doing nothing.
  • Other stuff- honesty, integrity, blah blah blah.

Personal check should be done. Like criminal records or talk to previous people they work or did business before.

Very good points, especially skills.
You both need ton contribute something of equal value.

I would also add

Values - You need to share some values and maybe politics or you may clash later on.

You must create good financial reports for your internal and external users.

You must consider the personal background of your prospect partner. It's better if you already knew the person, a friend or maybe a relative. In that way you can ensure your good partnership with him.

In partnership, even in corporation our basis is the financial statements of the business. In that way, you will see how the business operation is going.

That may explain the profitability of the operation...
But not the smooth co-relation of the partnership.....

Hi. First of all, this should be reliable person who can do everything in time and with the best result. This person should know how to work and work hard with aim to reach the needed result. Also, your partner should be good friend to you as well. You need to know each other, understand each other and work very coherently as whole.
