I am currently planning a marketing strategy that will boost my sales online and would like to ask or feedback from experienced retailers online and offline; would it reap positive results if I lower the prices on some items here online or if customers will buy $60 up and get a discount of $5 off or better yet just cheap prices for all items.

Everyone loves to see discounts. An effective marketing tactic is to show a standard retail price in red font, crossed out, and your price under it in a green font. Many retailers also put the discount percentage to encourage buyers to take action.

It's a lot tougher to show your customers "perceived value." In other words, you have to weigh the approximate number of people who will actually buy another item to receive the $5 discount, versus the number of people who would've spent $60 anyway and got free money. Including "free shipping" on purchases of $100 dollars or more is a tactic that most customers are used to seeing.

I agree with CreditCardGuy. Our busiest days in Brick and Mortar are the last days of a Sale/Coupons. And the Free Shipping is kind of Expected. You have to remember you don't have the retail overhead of a building or Staff to cover floor time. Your customers know this.

People do Love a Bargain and Saving money. People perceive Sales and Coupons as Bargains.

I think that immediate satisfaction boosts sales more than something to be gained at the end of an action (spending more than $60)
Users are more likely to react better if they are offered something right from the start. My advice is to cross out the old price and put the lower price next to it to show the new discount.

I agree with CreditCardGuy people love the word discount over cheap price because Discount means it can goes away while cheap means it will stay the same

I agree - discount is much better - you see old price and get a little mental orgasm ) - you save for ex 10%=50$ and think you can buy something else for this 50$ - what means you get it free. As well I think the word cheap gives a bit a feeling of not good quality. cheap not always means good.

discount is nice but if you are trying to convert on long tail keywords you need to have a competitive price.

I’m for discounts. You know, when you see the oldest price and now with the discount, you can figure out how much you save. It makes you so happy that you saved some percent of your money! That’s why many companies use them to attract many clients.
