I'm trying to find a gateway provider that has a feature of providing stored credit card info for my online customers.

I don't mind if the checkout process is hosted on the providers server, this is probably more desired in order to keep security strong and risk low. I see a lot of retail sites that store customer payment options and info on the site when you revisit the site and log in, but is this a feature you can get with a gateway provider or is this saved on the merchants side?

Thanks for any advice on this subject.

It will have to on the processor end, because if you are going to handle the finacial data in any way shape or form you HAVE to be PCI compliant, which is not cheap or easy.
Both PayPal and WorldPay have a subscription payment system where they store the customers details.
A Google Checkout account holds customer card details so the customer only needs to login, other than that I would think that most processors will have a similar feature.

Absolutely avoid storing cc info. It's a huge risk, if you read the processor small print you are often liable to huge fines if you do not keep this info properly secure. From a personal point of view I prefer not to have my card details stored, it's not that much of a problem to enter them each time I make a purchase.

I want to avoid storing credit information. The problem I face is that the site will be used by corporate (mechcanics ordering parts) so using personal based methods such as paypal and google checkout is not going to be friendly to company based ordering.

Why not??

I have a company PayPal account and a company Google checkout account, plus "personal" accounts with both.

You can use PayPal for credit card transaction without needing an account.

I think most of the world is aware now that when you purchase items you have put your card details in unless you have your OWN account at the site or processor.

For us there are three people who can login to the company PayPal, Google or Moneybooker accounts and pay for the server lease, the Nominet fees and invoices or Total Registration fees and I would suspect many companies are the same.

The other choice of course is that give the companies you deal with a 30 day credit account.

Our company said they had tried Paypal in the past, but most of the companies they work with won't allow Paypal as a payment method. I guess thier finance depts were not able to determine the origin of payment transactions.

Speak to your company's bankers - see who they approve/recommend - the bank will be involved in the process anyway.

All the major payment gateways now offer a solution where they store the crad details - ever since the farce of PCI.
