Hi all

I run the site trophiesawardsandgifts. com and I'm updating the site. I have a host of things that need done and I hope to employ somebody from freelancer.com to help me do that.

I have a number of suggestions of things that I need to do to engage customers in Ireland and UK for all of my trophies for sale etc, but could you help me think of ways to get better conversions on the site?

Here is what I have so far:

Changes to trophiesawardsandgifts .com site

Aims:
  1. To increase conversions
  2. To reduce the Bounce Rate
  3. To fix design issues on site

1/ Analytics: Trying to reduce the bounce rate. Any thoughts?

2/ Front Page:
a/ Reduced banner image: Reduce the size of images on the homepage to probably half. Good for promotions but just too big for the homepage.
b/ Increase product images: Size increase
c/ Product numbers: Looking to increase number of products to four across the page
d/ Currency: Should move to social media location
e/ Social Media: Need to link to a new window.
f/ Shopping cart: Cart goes to top with social media
g/ Newsletter: Sign up needs to be more obvious. Needs to link to Mailchimp
h/ Links: The top menu links need to be changed. Get rid of ‘A-Z Index’, at the top and maybe replace as Sitemap at the bottom?
i/ Contact: Contact might be best placed somewhere else. Thoughts welcome.
j/ Padlock: Security image to remain on all sections of the site
k/ Occasions: Needs to be rethought.
l/ Google+: Need to add G+
m/ Headers: There is a header tag <H1> on each page that is not being used. I’d like to add a header for SEO purposes but don’t want it to appear. Would this be <div> on subsequent pages?
n/ Links: When you navigate over a link, particularly on the occasions categories links, there does not seem to be the link description tag to add more information on what that link is about.

3/ Categories pages
a/ Price Filters: The ability to filter the products by type, occasion and by price. – Major drawback on the site. Terrible system in place. Needs to be more like eBay filters to work properly

4/ Product Page:
a/ Call to Action: Doesn’t stand out. Needs to be red to add to basket.
b/ Likes: The social share buttons need better CSS if possible
c/ Fonts: The fonts might be a little lost. Could be increased potentially
d/ Upselling: Need chance to upsell or cross sell even

5/ Checkout:
a/ Multiple Mailing: You had mentioned this before. Complicated? Remove maybe?
b/ Upselling: Possibly?
c/ Single page checkout?
d/ Reduce fields: Reduce the fields that might be required
e/ Postcode: Postcode auto complete for UK?

6/ Additional Pages:
I will be selling crafts from Ireland ASAP. I believe this is a straight forward category page. I’d like some info on artists. Looking for your thoughts.

7/ Product catalogue
Is there any simple way of producing a PDF catalogue of the products from the site? Too many people asking for catalogues like we used to give out. Compromise is a downloadable PDF doc. I can still tout green credentials.

8/ On the move:
Ultimate is to have a site that I can use on iPad which should be coming in few months! I want to start thinking of easy ways to have the site as touch friendly as possible In future.

9/ Landing pages:
I have been thinking about landing pages a lot. E.g. A schools landing page maybe with promotions etc for specific products. I am thinking that this is a category thing? Am I correct or are there other options?

10/ Updates: BlastLucene feature needs to be updated.

Kindest regards

Chris

Hi Chris

Thanks for replying. No particular need, I would just like to see people being more engaged with the site to get it down. I don't think it is of the highest importance, but a nice goal to use when framing the 'to do' list for the site.

Chris

Reducing "bounce rate" would be useful if it was a metric marking the failure rate of a ppc landing page.

There is no such thing as a "average site bounce rate". Bounce rate is a individual page metric, just because Google shows it on their analytics does NOT make it meaningful or useful.

Do you know what a high or low "bounce rate" means for any page on your site?

Is it good to have a low "bounce rate"?
