Hi All
I am in the process of creating a community site. I plan to have a web directory, dating service, downloads, free music, a large database of articles and resources, sections devoted to programming, gardening, etc. My ultimate goal is to have a site that people don't want to leave.
I was originally going to have a lot of affiliates in the directory (this wouldn't affect whether a site was listed or not) but I am considering removing the directory so that people don't have an excuse to leave (I may have a couple of relevant links in the articles) and was wondering what people recommend for ways to make the site profitable. In the far future I would like to be able to retire from this site. I don't have anything to sell but could set up a shop with digital downloadable products if this was an idea. Also does anyone know of a free service that allows a webmaster to have a 'virtual store' on their site that integrates products (any kind) and you receive a commission on sales, with everything handled by the owner of the goods.
Looking forward to your replies.
Thanks
Jason
