I have a website that gives advice on alternative health. How can I protect myself from being sued?

You'll need to put a disclaimer somwhere pretty much stating "The owners and/or affiliates of this site take no responsibility ... yada, yada, yada." Make sure it is very thorough and well thought out and doesn't leave any loopholes open.

Your best bet is to have a lawyer write it for you if at all possible.

Exactly as Anacrusis said - write a disclaimer... or, most preferably, have somebody else do it.

Since getting a lawyer to do it would cost an arm and a leg, look around other websites and see what they do - you may be able to buy some pre-written text for a minimal fee.

For example, I got a TOS, AUP and privacy policy for my hosting business for $50.

Write a disclaimer - but you need to make sure that your users agree to it PRIOR to getting any advice off your site, TOS' aren't necessarily "legally binding" as digital signatures aren't widely used or respected in courts).

If you can find someone else's that you cna modify - go for it, otherwise I would get a lawyer to write it - if you're going to tell people about their bodies then you open yourself up to an attourney's wet dream.

Another way is to do a search for alternative medice and copy the disclaimer they have and change the wording so it is yours. If your site was unique this would be a problem, but it's not so piece of cake.
