My client (a nonprofit) wants me to build a form and use the merchant acct. they have thru their bank to process credit cards. I can build the form, and their host has enabled the secure server. Now what? Should the bank give me coding? Always have used PayPal before. Anybody out there been down this road?

You'll have to check with their bank, basicly you will need a gateway that interfaces with the merchant account. The gateway will usually have an API you can talk to through code to authorize and capture the credit card transactions.

Another option if a gateway is not available to you is to store the credit card details (encrypted of course) in a database and manually process them. Assuming the bank gives you a virtual terminal.

Thank you very much--I'm not quite so lost now! Is the gateway something the bank will give me?

Usually the bank will give you access to their gateway. You'll have to check with them.

What you might need to do is get an authorize.net payment gateway account. You can get one from a reseller such as e-onlinedata.com
Once you get your merchant account, you can easily write a PHP script or hire a programmer to do so that can interface the payment gateway that will process your credit card payments.

I'm well late to this thread, but anyway.

Let's say I have three ecommerce sites, domainA, domainB and domainC, which advertise certain services for sale.

And let's say I have domainD which will have the secure form so that domainA, domainB and domainC can all point to this domain for the inputting of CC details.

I've looked high and low for a way to get this to work and can't find anything.

I'm aware that I must buy an SSL certificate for domainD but I can't find any information on how to get it all to work. Making the forms isn't a problem but how can I get the server to store the encrypted credit card details, etc, etc?

PS. Although the CC details need to be collected through domainD, the transactions will be done manually elsewhere, so I just need to know how get it all to fit together from accepting the details, to storing it, to retrieving it.

Any suggestions to tutorials out there?
