Need Advice On Creating A Membership Site

Hi,

I need to create a Membership Site that can do the following.

Allow users to create their own user name & password.

Will have free & paid member sections & lock out a member
that has not paid their membership.

Be fairly easy to use & configure.

My host has some Fantastico scripts, under the section Content Management
that I'm thinking of using.

Drupal
Xoops
TYPO3
Siteframe
Post-Nuke
phpWebSite
phpWCMS
PHP-Nuke
Joomla
Geeklog

Drupel has some good reviews, but I'm still undecided as to which one.
Any ideas on which one would be the best pick.

I don't think any of those have "paid membership" component. I know for sure that Drupal and Siteframe don't. I tested and rejected them for that among other reasons.

You may want to use a gateway script to control sign ups, names passwords and entrance to the site. Then use whatever you like within the site proper.

Both drupal and joomla have paid membership extensions to my knowledge. I have been using joomla and can certainly commend it.

google is your friend!

Regards,

Peter

I've been using Joomla, which was known as Mambo, and it's quite good. There are lots of extensions that you can install, but keep in mind those are written by normal users like us, and there are many extensions that can do the same thing -> so do a research b4 you choose which extension to use.

Not sure I would run a pay site off of free script that could have been writen by a 16 year old I would definately make sure it has good reviews before installing it.

It's not the matter of age, it's the matter of experience. I believe I may code worse than some 16 year-old out there. But I totally agree that you should "make sure it has good reviews before installing it"

www.amember.com is a well proven membership/user management system - it's not free but if you need the best!

Personally, I prefer drupal over joomla.
