I just launched my website http://www.devilthreads.com, and i was wondering how long it was before you guys made a sale (for those of you that sell products) I am trying hard to get more visitors and make this website work, its just hard because i dont know how to get the name out there.

Anyway thanks for the help and im open for advice

Keep in mind that a lot of marketing has nothing to do with the web. If you can get any type of regular press i.e. TV, Newspaper, etc...

Friends and family are a good way to go.

Work with your suppliers to get your site listed on their sites.

Internet the quick and simple way is paid advertising. Make sure your content and keywords are good and the organic traffic will kick in over time.

Its often hard to remember just because you know your site is on the web now no one else has any idea it exist.

Hope this helps a some. To answer your question I managed to move product fairly quickly by going to friends in the same field. ( a few days)

hmm i realize that alot of media has nothing to do with the web, but i thought anything is better than nothing.

I have told friends and family so ive done that one.

Also, i make the shirts directly so i dont really have any supplier to go to.

about the content, if you didnt look at my website its mostly pictures of t shirts that im selling, and ive been wondering what kind of content i can add because im kind of stumped about it. Also, how does that make my site get more traffic?

so im just letting you know my situation. And im new to alot of this so i might be doing something completely wrong and not even know it.

Your site actually looks very nice. Minor tweak you could make to the L&F is to make 'contact us' look more like a single item as opposed to 'contact' and 'us'.

Other than that my suggestion would be to get a forum going and generate some buzz for yourself. If I were getting on to the site for the first time I'd want to know that other people think that the site and your shirts are cool and happening. So if I saw a bunch of people posting on the forums then I'd probably feel like there's a bit of a community behind this product and I will not be the only one wearing it. This in turn can generate some good sales for you over time.

A forum would probably be a good idea.

Another possibility would be a bar scene in your area. Maybe some flyers. You might see if you could get a short description added to the top area for the spiders to see some text. Don't add to much because you want your content close to the top.

I got a random sale for my first ecommerce site before I realised the site was even 'live' - it was on the web, but completely unpromoted! I nearly deleted it as a test order, but in reality it was an order for a digital camera - and not from Indonesia or Nigeria

I posted to several relevant forums and customers who were looking for such services came in through the sig links.

Invest your time in promoting your website online..

Try reciprocal linking with other similar sites..slow but definite traffic increase.

A forum is also a good idea. You can try signing up for the newsletter at megastake.com...they give great tips!
