I have looked at ZenCart & OsCommerce, but they both require customers to register/logon and my client does not want that. Can anyone recommend a similar cart without this restriction?

Outside of building your own, no.

Wouldn't they have to at least enter SOME customer information anyway? How else do you know where to ship it?

Yes they would - it's the whole process of thinking up a password and registering that many customers object to (myself included - I can never remember which email I've used... and sometimes I just want to have a browse first...) Maybe I've misunderstood and you can browse without registering, but I couldn't see work out how to do this (please put me right if I've got it wrong!)

Anyway, without getting carried away/off subject, that discussion is beyond the scope of my question, which is whether there is a free cart that does not require registration!

I have used zen cart and it can be set up several ways

Browse without registering - seeing all information
Browse but no prices until logging in
Browse only - showcase mode

Most shopping carts (free and otherwise) don't require registration until you the customer is going through the checkout process. This allows visitors to browse the store and add items to their shopping cart without registering.

Without writing your own, I do not know of any shopping cart that allows absolutely no registration.
