Hi guys,

I've been running with PayPal for quiet some time now and looking back, their transaction fees/comissions are a slap in the face once you add all the figures together.

I am sure there are many many webmasters in my position and so I dare bring up the question: What are the alternatives?

I've covered a huge number of threads on the "other" WMT forum but the sheer number of payment processors got me lost with too much choice.

Anybody cares to step in and talk about their views, experiences and recommendations?

Well, there's moneybookers, which I sometimes use, and there's egold, Stormpay and Google Checkout. Alle I've ever used are Paypal & Moneybookers and I'm quite happy with both of them.

Paypal can be quite cheap compared to other processors. If you are turning over very large amounts you can usually negotiate fees with your merchant bank/payment processor.

There's one called E-Secure Check or something like that, it makes it so you can pay it from your bank online if they support bill payment. I've used it so clients could buy some of the latest software I produced.

There is one called Protx (www.protx.com) here in the UK. For a single monthly fee you can have upto 1000 transactions free. However, I've used Moneybookers, PayPal, eGold. However, I've only used Protx and PayPal for website payment processors.

Thanks for the feedback guys, please keep them coming.

I prefer Paypal only as they are reliable and secured, i know they are very costly for me as (1$ is Rs 45) but they are accepted worldwide so transaction are easy. How is Stormpay and Egold? i read in some post that they are not reliable is this true?

I think Paypal is very reliable. E-gold is also good, tho a lil complicated. Moneybookers is also there but never had to really use it.

Protx.com as somebody mentioned, is absolutely brilliant with a very extensive API to allow transactions on SSL space without your customers leaving your website. Only in the UK though. Also, nochex.com but again I believe UK only.

Paypal is okay but not really the professional solution you would ideally want.

I looked into a real merchant account with Visa and MasterCard ....Yikes!!! Expensive. I was glad to have Paypal as an alternative. It does get pricey, but it is still better than the alternative for me at this point in time.

I'm only sorry I didn't think of starting a company like Paypal a few years ago.

If you have some programming skills, you should try Authorize.net so you can handle credit cards in your site. Redirection sucks and give a poor image to visitors.

I use Paydollar payment services for my consulting projects though.

Options other than paypal can be even more expensive. Yes, there are a few which are cheaper, but then i have some doubts about their reliability.

Other than Paypal, i personally think that moneybookers and 2CO are the best. Since Google checkout is in its early days and is only available in USA so can't say much about it.
