Hello everyone this is my first post here
Im starting up a business from scratch that sells digital downloads of music with permission from record labels. I want to be able to sell internationally but im clueless about how taxes and currencies work. Im under the impression that people in Canada have to pax taxes but people in other Countries wont have 2. I was told that by an accountant but im not sure if its true. Also currencies change daily so how would I apply the appropriate ammount when I charge customers for purchasing songs? My questions seem simple enough but im not sure how deep it goes and how many more details there are to it all. Any feedback would be appreciated.

interesting tekcap.

"I'm starting up a business from scratch that sells digital downloads of music with permission from record labels."

From my understanding you need to subscribe to MCA and then pay them a percentage of the songs revenue you generate; this royalty is then passed onto artist.

You can't have permission from record labels directly as they have no means to monitor downloads. The MCA are the mafia when it comes to royalties. I am doing a similar biz model and would welcome your feedback. Beta website can be found at http://www.splashplay.co.uk/SplashPlay_v2/home.htm

Thanks tekcap

You can apply tax at the point of sale. When the user checks out you will have their country info with their address details and you can either add the relevant tax amount to the cart total if they Canadian or add nothing if they are not.
