Hey folks,
Well it has been two LONGGG months into my journey of starting a e-commerce site, and I am finally getting the details wrapped up and ready to go live in the next week or two. I was just doing some forum searching on marketing etc.. and I just had a few question's. (1) If you were about to go "live" with your e-commerce site, what would be some of the particulars you would pay attention to? (2) I plan on doing a PPC campaign on the site, would I be better off spending my money on PPC, or doing some quality directory listing's first, such as yahoo, msn, etc? (3) With a PPC campaign there are so many to chose from, would google ad-sense ,and yahoo YPN be a good start? and also related to PPC if I had a monthly budget of 100.00 for adsense, would that generate enough traffic to even worry with a PPC campaign? I wanted to also thank everyone on this site for the great forum post you guys and girls have provided. I have found EVERYTHING from web designer, to article writer's, and ton's upon ton's of great info on this site!
Thanks in advance!
Chris

Depending on the products you are offering $100 adsense campaign really is not worth trying. I eat up about $2500 a day in marketing during our ad blitzes without a HUGE increase in revenue. Luckily our site does well without heavy marketing. Your best strategy would be posting your link in your signature with some key words and go forum hopping and create a new blog about your site on wordpress or the like. From there you can do some directory listings as well. This will help your site get up in the search engine rankings. It's a tough beginning and really print advertising is pretty good if you have a good product and a easy to remember domain name.

Welcome to the wonderful world of disappointing web traffic. The best advertising you can do is word of mouth. Or word of type as I like to say. The more people who visit your site and pass it along to others, the better you will be. Nothing says come to my site like a great great deal on the product you can afford to lose margins on. People dont come for fancy smancy graphics....they come for great (free) information / deals / and sex. I hope your site has one of the 3.

Have a great day.

I was hoping you would say that really! I can put that $100 elsewhere! anyway, I understand its going to be a LONG LONG road as far as traffic is concerned, was trying to figure out which way to go so thanks for pointing me in the right direction. As far as the site goes, It will be dealing with Adult related product's and Lingerie as well. i think it is related along the line's of a Adult shop and I have already thought about the deal's I could offer. I am offering free shipping for order's over 49.99 and also I am currently trying to find the "right" product that will be given free to every customer that makes even a single purchase. Am I on the right track with this? Everything I have read so far is what made me decide on doing this, because as you said, everyone wants something for nothing basically! I also have someone writing various articles for the site, which will be published on the site for anyone to view for free. I hope that put's me 3 for 3! lol. Maybe I can get enough money to cover hosting, which is free for a year! so that puts me at...0.000000 dollars :d

A well-built site with a lot of unique content and even a few inbound links (sites linking to yours) will always attract quality traffic from search engines. If you hunt around long enough, you'll be able to find those sources free of charge. Personally, what I would suggest you do is participate in various adult web discussion boards and include your hyperlink in your signature. You'll be posting to people in your target market, giving you the goodwill type of exposure, and you'll probably generate the best leads and sales doing that. Mix liberally with any other sources of free advertising you can find and away you go.
