A few months ago, I started a Ad Marketplace and Auctions website.
The idea was simple. For webmasters who want to sell ads directly to advertisers, all they had to do was sign up at http://www.adspace-auctions.com and post the type of ads they are selling on their websites. They could choose to sell at a fixed price or in an auction fashion.
Everything is free on the website and I am not taking any commission.

However, the website has failed to take off. Is there any wrong with this type of service?
I thought it would be a great service to the webmaster community.
Webmasters could keep 100% of the proceeds of the sale of ads on their websites and I was cutting the middle man such as google, ysm, adbrite, adengage, etc..

Why hasn't it been any interest for adspace-auctions.com?

Nice site ablave and I feel a good idea. I would give it some time. Most brick and mortar businesses take up to 3 years or more before they realize a profit.

Its very good idea. As dougadam said give it some more time... Don't sit and wait on it, it makes you restless. Because you are not expecting any income from it, just look at it as a hobby and move on... promote is continuously...

I suggest you continue to promote it with forum posts.

Are you doing an link exchanges?

No matter how good they are they never take off as fast as we would like.

This is really a good idea, but do you know rightmedia, which is required by Yahoo. I think it has the same idea as yours, but much took action much earlier than you.
But don't worry, there're yahoo, aol and msn, so there can be another rightmedia, you! But try to be the second one, if not the champion.
What can i say after reviewing your website is there's too much letters, is it a news portal? No, it's not, so try to think in your potencil customers' prospective. WE DON'T NEED WHAT WE DON’T NEED!
Back to what you conern most, how to promote it, i guess maybe you can use Google, you know almost 40% of our website visits come from google.

I also think its a good idea, unfortunatly some good ideas do not take off as u might anticipate even though u know you have a good idea, it might just take time !!!

I also think people are sceptical about these kind of sites, since its not got google or msn init, people assume its of no use to them ??

I have registered with lots of exchange link sites and they always turn out to be rubbish and just tryin to get a link from me, so maybe people think ur site is similar to these sites, if you could try to distance urself from these kind of sites and make it clear there are no catches people might sign up to ur site easier

Its a great idea, but you need more than a few months to get it going, also i think the site design could be improved, there is too much going on on the home page, its confusing, clean and simple would be better

I think you need keep promoting it on webmaster / marketing forums. Most projects failed because most webmasters give up to fast. Keep promoting and it will go, be patient.
Tip: Put a tell a friend script on it, it will help

I'd say that one reason is that there are far too many such sites out there and, more importantly, there are giants like adbrite in the market. Even though they are paying commissions but they have far more advertisers and publishers than any new site.

You need to ask -- why should people go with your site rather than others, and then promote that unique point. You will need some solid advertising to compete with the big companies. =)

Offer an affiliate program. If a site finds you new advertisers or publishers, you reimburse $1 or $2. This is how i found out about text-link-ads.com. I saw an advertisement for the ad network on someone's blog. That blog made a few bucks when i signed up for text-link-ads.com. Adsense has a similar program. You'd start to build your ad network much faster, but it's going to be very hard to compete against the behemoth we all know as google, especially when there's already adbrite, advolcano, etc.

But I do love your site. The design is very clean and professional.

It seems like a good idea, which ought to work. But selling ads by auction will be a new concept for most site owners, so I can understand why it would take a while to take off.

Is the problem that you are not getting much web traffic? In which case, how are you marketing the site (maybe this is part of it?

Or are you getting visitors but not conversions?

I think it would be helpful to have a very prominent 'How it works' type of link on the home page - you need to make it very easy for visitors to find out what to do, since a lot of them will not have done anything like this before.

Have you asked any of your existing users for suggestions, or enquired how hard or easy they found it to get started?

What about competitors? Are there any, and how do they operate? Maybe you could learn from them.
