Hello. My question is: how do popular websites like monster.com, dice.com, computerjobs.com, careerbuilder, hotjobs derive most of their revenue?
Second, what kind of subscription models are in place for recruiters to search these systems? Do they pay monthly?

I'm working on setting up an aggregated job listings site which will also let people create profiles and upload their resume. I've envision it could be a great tool for recruiters, but am not sure how to go about capitalizing from them. I'd ask a recruiter, but figured most of them wouldn't give me an honest answer. TIA

I think they generally charge to place an ad, though I think there are some who freelance job sites that charge the person looking for the work. I'm not sure about the subscription for recruiters. I would think you could set up the revenue in a lot of different ways and maybe the way you do could be your selling point.

One of the more interesting things I observe is that many of these companies are seemingly set up to attract VC funding; or for take overs. However, I can't see how they make their numbers and stay open for the long term.

Mosaic, which is now HotJobs, seemed to me to be only in business to be acquired. I think it made money when it was up and running. But they made far more when Yahoo acquired them.

In terms of revenue, how would you compete with LinkedIn? No one needs to even pay to post a resume there, and I know four recruiters who use that site relentlessly to identify new candidates.

LinkedIn doesn't have a typical classified section though does it? And I would think it works better for some kind of jobs than others.

I know what you mean though. I've always figured they made enough charging for the listing, but in all honestly I really don't know how much they would make.
