eCommerce Tycoon

I've done a bunch of websites before, but none that were ecommerce. I have a GoDaddy hosting account and want to customize the shopping cart and product pages to match the site design. I looked into myshopify.com and it looks good except that they don't take AmEx and I'm really not sure about how well it will integrate with GoDaddy.

Does anyone know of a better service than Shopify?

Do you need to integrate an API to accept payments. if so you need to get separate Amex merchant account.

You may have look on Oscommerce and zencart, both are nice cart.

I found Oscommerce to be the best so far among other open source that is.

To have a successful eCommerce solution using OScommerce, your design and implementation needs to be VERY special.

I, like many others can spot an OScommerce site a mile away and they smack of 'unprofessional' and 'free'.

My top 2 are Oscommerce and Virtuemart.

I have been using Virtuemart a lot lately. My clients like to use Joomla because they like the backend better than just a plain cart like Oscommerce.

Oscommerce is fairly easy to template and there are many templates for sale that really look good.

Another one that I use sometimes is CRE loaded Oscommerce. It is a really nice more feature rich version of Oscommerce.

I have used oscommerce a bit. Ran nice, very flexible. But you can see one a mile away if some customizing is not done to.

Not necessarily a bad thing, depends on you and your product/image needs.
