Hi,

I'm planning on creating and running a website based on quite an orignal idea. I have already done a big part of the website design and planning, but to realise the project, I will need the help of a web developer, who has the necessary skills to put the website into code.

I would be very closely involved with the follow-up to make sure everything is made as intended. Certain routine-tasks I could help doing myself, since I have a basic knowledge about website development.

The website will involve a lot of interactivity by the visitors and will need systems for registration, news posting, interactive content editing, polling, ... So the web developer will need to have knowledge of and experience with HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL, JavaScript, ...Example websites that require similar skills are http://www.last.fm, http://digg.com, http://www.wikipedia.org and http://www.howstuffworks.com, to name a few.

The website will be some kind of system operating as a link between all kinds of projects (but especially charity projects) and the donors it's seeking. Core characteristics are a community, a special voting system, user interactivity and entertainment. There is a very original mechanism involved, which I will explain to people interested in private (because I don't like just putting it on a forum like that and it would take too much space of this post anyway).

I'm looking for a person that can handle putting this website in code. In return, he will get a share in the profits. This is not at all a "Pay me $500, I build you a website and leave" kind of job. It is highly customized and the person coding the website hopefully stays involved in its further development (to help expanding the website).

So I'm not looking for a contract with a professional firm. Rather I'm looking for somebody who examines my idea, believes in its success and bears a part of the risk that is inevitably faced when realising the website (since the profits only come a while after especially a lot of time to create the website has been invested).

Does anybody know where I could find this kind of web developer, or is anybody interested in such kind of project? I'll be happy to explain all about it. You can post something here or email me at pro.gui{_at_}hotmail.com (replace {_at_} with the right sign).

I am not interested in getting a share of the business. I might be able to help but only if you pay upfront. Too many websites get started and fail to make any profit.
I am not willing to work for nothing.

I understand what you mean. Yet I'm hoping to find this kind of co-founder for two reasons.

First, the problem is that I'm financially not strong enough to take the risk on my own. Investing time is no problem, but paying an upfront web developper is too costly. If I find somebody who investigates the whole idea that I have in mind, and believes in it, he can help realize it with only investing time. Then nobody has to make upfront costs. If he investigates my idea and doesn't think it will be successful, he can still withdraw.

A second reason why I need a person more like a co-founder than a hired freelancer, is because I hope that person commits himself more on a long term to this project (that's what co-founders usually do). Because he might get profits in the long run, I'm acertained that he'll do his very best to think about the ideas of the website himself, and to implement them the right way.

If people are partner with things, they tend to put there heart and soul into getting it up and running rather than a freelancer just having the attitude that its just another job keeping them awake at 3am to get it finished.
