My friend and I are beginning a small web design business together to pay for bills & college loans. After much discussion on fair pricing and all the legalities, we ran across one question: what about the hosting. I would compare it to sub-contracting, but dont know if that is how this situation would be viewed by anyone in a legality position.
Can we legitimately sell the hosting for our websites even if we dont own the server that has our customers data?
i.e. we're asked to totally take care of designing a website.
we respond: yes, we will handle everything. the up front cost will be $$$.$$ and there will be a yearly fee (if you so choose) of $$$.$$ for us to handle all the domain setup and keep your website running and up to date and to fix anything that goes horribly wrong.
the hosting services already offer most of this, so we are basically selling to them a face they can yell at when they are having problems and someone that can kind of dumb it down and to make sure things run smoothly.
again, we're just concerned that somehow, in some way this isn't legal to do. but all the sites advertise you can have 16 web domains on one server, why would someone buy a web hosting service for 16 different web domains if they aren't going to be selling to 16 different people?
thank you in advance,
keith
