I am a .net developer with years of experience. Currently, I am in between projects, so I had some time to think about my next project. I want to write a family of application based around the Classified ad format (Classifieds, personals, real estate, etc). I will write them in .net/SQL of course.

Before I commit the time to write them, I wanted to get the take of the members of this forum.

I know there are plenty of this type of applications out there, but I still hear complains about service, professionalism, ongoing support and even ethics. Therefore, I can compete by filling these needs, but is that enough.

What do yo think? Is this market too competitive? Not enough money? Any other ideas for possible applications?

I think that you will have high chances of success. If you can fill the gaps of the things you mentioned as missing from most other similar services you will surely do it better and have a ton of success.

not really sure what you mean - but i saw classified ads - and
I'm currently having trouble mass placing them...
If you could develop an easy to use software that changes/masks
the ip address from a cable modem - you'd put the house of pancakes
out of business selling to all these mlm, 1up, 2up advertisers....
again this may not even be what your talking about but
i need to vent anyway

The biggest problem isn't anything that's listed there, although those probably are major issues.

The biggest problem with classified ad sites is that they generally suck. The best one out there is Craigslist (or at least the most popular), and it's a joke. If you're going to follow that trend, then you'll probably fail miserably. If, however, you have something unique and intriguing, then you might have a shot.
