Alright here is the deal. I signed up for paypal so that i can accept payments through my website, however, they declined me for a bad credit history.

So my question is, what would be an alternative? I was looking at something like authorize.net to handle payments but am unsure due to this being my first e-commerce website. I would like it if my users would not have to leave my page during the payment process.

They can do that? Since when?

And if you don't want them leaving your site, PayPal just did you a favor. They require users to leave the site.

If you've got bad credit history, though, you're going to have some problems for the first year or so. What you may have to do is go with one of the high-risk merchant account providers (like one of the ones porn and gambling sites use) for 6-8 months, until you're shown to be a good boy...then you can generally go with one of the more mainstream ones. This means you might have to pay 5-10% for a short time period, but that's the way the cookie crumbles and all that.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but that's likely the reality of your situation. There is a specialist in these types of things who might be able to help you, though. His name is Corey Bryant, and he's all about the merchant accounts and stuff. We used to be the two on WebProWorld who would explain this stuff to people, and he knows way more than I do.

Paypal has no way to check your credit history. That seems very odd. I'd look into it if I were you.

Are you crazy man? Anyone in America can get a credit report on anyone at any time for any reason. All you need is a social security number, and they give those out like candy on the internet. And if you give them the personally identifiable financial information they need to be able to process payments on your behalf, they ABSOLUTELY have access to your credit history.

Credit reporting has all been moved to the 3rd World to punish consumers by creating errors, for passing a consumer protection law requiring credit reporting firms to give people access to the data on them for free.

It's likely they got denied for the Pro version of PayPal, where the payment transaction happens without taking the customer through the PayPal website. I had a home foreclosure & late payments on everything when I was bedridden for 6 months; I still have a PayPal business account, but I can't get the Pro version, or whatever it's called.

This is only a guess, I don't really know why they were denied.

It was for the Pro version of paypal, becasue i didnt want my users leaving my site during the registration and payment process. And they indicated to me in an email that the reason for denial was for bad credit and possible fraud alert ( which is due to me over drafting at my bank ). If I was paypal then I too would do credit checks to make sure that their customer base is credit worthy and faithful to their services.

Ah - I didn't mention it.

I've been tempted by charge.com nearly every time I think about getting a real merchant account. They state that they have a high approval rate, even with bad credit; though that's a boast they make on their own, so who knows. A while ago I was thinking about using them over 2checkout because of the quick deposit of funds - but I don't have any personal experience with them; only they looked like something I would consider.

If you're really stuck, you may also want to try ccnow.com. I'm not recommending them because I haven't used them...the only reason they come to mind is because they process a lot of credit card transactions for porn sites.

If they'll take a site involving Asian lesbian midgets little people with a fetish for latex and female donkeys, you can't be doing anything they won't take.

By the way, the line about clicking ads in your signature is a violation of Google's ToS. I won't report it, but it's only a matter of time before someone does.
