Hi,

I am selling links on my website via a third party provider. I earn roughly 200 USD/month on my tiny website. (Enough to pay my hosting fees.) But selling links screws with search engines and is bad for the web yada-yada; and I want to stop helping this business. However I still want the money. (I still have to pay for hosting, you know.)

Can anyone recommend a good alternate to selling links? Preferably non-intrusive.

(Google AdSense is not an option.)

I'd suggest a different host ... I'm paying $6 a month and have no complaints. I do hit it pretty hard.

Still, I'm sure you'd rather pocket that other $194. The thing is, your site is actually of much higher quality than 80 % of the blogs I've seen. If you don't mind a quote:

The aim of the series will be to raise awareness of why web typesetters really are needed. I will be explaining:
  • use of advanced Unicode for punctuation
Looking over some of your musings on semantic markup, fighting spam, et cetera, I wonder why you aren't doing a little bit of consulting on the side? Or producing software to sell?

I actually consider my website to be a total waste. I am working on a much improved version of the site and rewriting all content accordingly. But I need a way to monetize other than screwing with search engines. Selling links on my website does bring in good money. But as the web works the way it does; it is wrong.

Look at the origianl post for instance; I even included a link to Opera's forums since search engines hate duplicates.

The 200 USD I get for selling links on that one page covers my email fees from Runbox, my ten domain names, and a basic shared hosting package from Lunarpages. Bascially that one site pays for all my web activities.

I am not doing consulting because I am ‘only’ 19; and people don't take me seriously because of that. (Here in Norway that is. I do have six web-realted job oppertunities in the US. But I can't even get a job at the local super market here in Norway.)

Anyhow: Suggestions on how to monetize my content, anyone?
