Positions Available with Students for Barack Obama
Students for Barack Obama (SFBO) is the official student wing of Obama for America, the Barack Obama ’08 campaign. SFBO is now accepting applications for a number of leadership positions. Please note that, at this time, all positions are unpaid. We are seeking students for all positions.
In order to apply for a position, please submit your resume and a letter of interest to applications@studentsforbarackobama.com by Thursday, March 22 at midnight. Be sure to include in your letter any and all positions for which you would like to be considered. Please read the position descriptions carefully, as applications for some positions require samples of your work or references.

Webmaster
The Webmaster will be responsible for day-to-day website updates and maintenance, as well as periodic projects. Past experience, a sample portfolio, and references required; ability to devote a significant amount of time is a must. Applicants need to demonstrate creativity and a desire to meld politics and technology. If applying for this position, please submit your portfolio.
Graphic Designer
The Graphic Designer will produce visual solutions to the communication needs of SFBO, using a mix of creative skills and commercial awareness. Applicants need imaginative flair, awareness of current fashions in the visual arts, working knowledge of the latest computer packages, and an understanding of material costs and time limits. If applying for this position, please submit samples of your work.
Public Relations Assistant
The Public Relations Assistant will manage the press list, keeping a database of articles, reporters, and contact information. This person will participate in writing press releases and contacting media.
Research Assistants (2)
One Research Assistant will track the positions, activities, and remarks of opposing Democratic candidates. The other member will track the positions, activities, and remarks of Republican candidates. When necessary, these people may be called upon for fact-checking or original research.
Eastern Media Tracker
The Eastern Media Tracker will be responsible for a daily check on Obama media in the morning. This student will help the communications team react rapidly to the news cycle and keep media links up to date.
Western Media Tracker
The Western Media Tracker will be responsible for a daily check on Obama media late at night. This student will help the communications team react rapidly to the news cycle and keep media links up to date.
Spanish Language Translator
The Spanish Language Translator will be responsible for translating SFBO organizational materials into Spanish. Spanish writing sample requested.
Deputy Director of Finance
The Deputy Director of Finance will be responsible for working with the Director of Finance to coordinate with Obama for America with regard to the funding of SFBO chapters. Knowledge of FEC regulations is a significant asset. Law students will be given preference for this position. References and related experience required.
Administrative Assistant
The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for keeping minutes on conference calls, for aiding in the distribution of materials, and for maintaining detailed records regarding the activities of SFBO.
College State Director
Note: College State Director positions are available in the following states: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Washington, Idaho, New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alaska, and Hawaii
State Directors will be responsible for recruiting chapters at every college and university in the state, establishing a state leadership structure, aiding in the appointment of chapter leaders, compiling membership lists and building the movement in the state, coordinating cross-campus events, providing logistical and material support to individual chapters, coordinating the activities of chapter leaders, serving as the main link between the national leadership and the individual chapters, and implementing the student field plan in the state. Previous leadership at the state level is an asset in applying for this position.
High School State Director
The High School State Director will be responsible for mobilizing and organizing the high schools throughout the state. The ideal candidate will be a high school sophomore or junior with strong leadership experience.
Adviser to High School State Director
The adviser to the high school director must be a high school graduate and will provide guidance and assistance to the state’s high school chapter directors.
