I've been mulling around a neat idea for a rating site for a while, and I think I know exactly what I want to do. Unfortunately, after attempting to implement the features I was imagining, I found the tasks too complex for my basic PHP knowledge.
I was originally planning on making it a music rating site, but for people to effectively rate music, they'd have to listen to it, and that would get us into a whole bunch of legal difficulties. I'm still hoping that it can be a somewhat music-oriented service, but that's definitely not a requirement at this point.
I hate despise digg clones, I think the creators are stupid, unoriginal, and completely clueless. If you saw "content rating site" and thought "digg clone," you're wrong, I really want to avoid going that way with this project.
I really wish I could describe the idea here, but I just can't put it into words. I'll try to make a mockup in an image editor, but it may not look pretty, so use your imagination.
The catch is, I can't pay you, because I don't have any money, and I'm really not trying to make a profit. If you do want to make something, I'll let you manage advertisements or something and receive the profit (to a reasonable extent; if the site does get popular, and is making lots, I might want in ;-) ) which probably wouldn't be enough to do anything with.
Luckily, I only need a theme and a module (or two) to be coded (or modified) to make my idea work, and if you do help, you will be a co-founder, with all administration rights and privileges that I would have.
