My all-time favorite band is Metallica, and I can't stand any of those other heavy bands mentioned earlier like Korn, slipknot, Linkin Park, etc. (The only other "Heavy Music" I'm into is the commercial Megadeth and Black Sabbath)

Other lesser known music I have to give props to are the Halo, KOTOR, and Mortal Kombat Soundtracks.

My favorite song of all time is Mercy Street by Peter Gabriel, I've listened to it hundreds of times and it never gets old for me. I also like Father Figure by George Michael, another great song. Under Cover of Night off the Halo Soundtrack is another really good song, for some reason these tend to be more unknown, but it's what I like

Iron Maiden, the Bruce Dickinson years. Anyone who can do a song about Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", make it intelligent and make it rock has talent. I actually got turned on to them back in junior high history class, where I first heard "Alexander the Great" from the "Somewhere in Time" album. The song "Two Minutes to Midnight" from the "Powerslave" album is a very intelligent and powerful song.

Also early ELO. Their album "Time" didn't get the credit it's due, and there's a song on it called "Here is the News" that's telling for the here and now. And there's no doubt Jeff Lynne's still got it.

I'm with you. My tastes run the spectrum. But the other day I heard some middle schoolers singing something from the Beastie Boys' License to Ill album, which came out when I was in junior high. And I see more of 'em wearing clothes with Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, the Stones, most of whom could be their grandparents or great-grandparents.
