What is the correct spelling of "authorized"? Is it "authorised" or "authorised"?

Seems like a lot of programmers including the developers of joomla and moodle use "authorised" but i had a customer point out that it should be "authorized".

I have a post on Joomla's forum in regards to this but wanted to get some feedback from the members here. A lot of people form overseas says "authorised" is the correct spelling. Everyone I ask here in the US says it should be "authorized"

Even IE7's inline spell check is underlining "authorised" as misspelled when making this post.

I believe both are acceptable spellings. I'm from the UK and I tend to spell it authorized but other people spell it authorised. If I had to choose, I'd go for authorized, as my spell check says that and it just seems right

Here in Australia the "correct" spelling is "authorised". However I also spell it as "authorized".

I tend to use US spelling in international websites, and use Australian (British) spelling in local websites. I think most people in Australia can switch from British to USA spelling/word usage when they need to, without too much of a thought Or maybe it's just because I grew up using a US spellchecker and teachers taught the British style spelling.

It all depends on your target market

UK ( and other English speaking countries ) = authorised

US = authorized
