It seems surreal. The use of "hybrid" embryos for scientific research has been given the go ahead by the HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority). These embryos are part animal, part human - something freaky and which seems wrong to me.

The last time I checked, homo sapiens was part of the animal kingdom.

Humans are animals.
Why are they doing this? If it's for fun, I'm with you, but if the hope is to find a cure for cancer, then I won't mind.

Humans might be part of the animal kingdom, but combining animal cells with human cells seems wrong. It's in the hope that it will cure diseases, but I still feel it's wrong

It might be. My personal opinion is that it's wronger to let people suffer diseases we might be able to cure, though.

I guess I'll have to put down the third vote for research. Not that this is an election....

Ah, that's proof the world ends next week when any conservative can agree with me.
I think we're both probably uncomfortable with the idea of people building werewolves in laboratories for the same reason. And it's pretty obvious we're putting that aside for the same reason. Not sure if that's a comforting or worrying idea?

To me it comes down to this, 2 years ago I lost my grandmother to cancer, I was really close to her and it hurt me very much, and I know I am not alone people are dying every second, and I cannot imagine putting restrictions on research when the resources are already there. In my mind it is kind of like this, in war world 2 we all know the tragic tells of what went on, you may or may not know that German doctors did research (that could only be preformed by unethical means) on Jews. Now there is a lot of information that was retrieved from that and a lot that we use today in helping with medicines, are you telling me just because we got that information from a way that is not right, we should not use it now?

Since we've already got that information, then it's probably best to use it. However, the idea of mixing humans with animals (cows, rabbits and more) just freaks me out completely

The Nazis invented the idea of transplant surgery. I'm not trying to talk Hitler up or anything ( my uncle would, though, he's crazy), but it's a fact. The Nazis would cut the head or arms off of one person and do the same to another, then try to reattach the pieces to the wrong people. I don't know if it was out of pure cruelty or if they actually were trying to learn about medicine, probably for their war effort. Whatever.
But when we won, and confiscated all kinds of documents, we found this research. And we built on it - that's why we can put a new kidney in someone.

yes, that's wrong!. Although we also are classified animals, we're different for we're on the highest form.

I prefer the scientific way of looking at it.
