Wow is this ever an anglophone take on the world events.
First of all let me state for the record that I am...
1) Canadien
2) French
3) A jew
4) A newfoundlander
5) War vert of 2 conflicts. (Kuwait and Darfur)
6) Live in France.
First of all just to clear up a couple of things.
I'll drop dialogue about the United States involvement and support of the Vichy gouvernment.
Instead I'll simply point out that the commencement of the second world war had nothing to do with the treatement of the jewish people. On the hand the start of that war had more to do with the invasion of Poland in 1939. An again I'll walk away from debate about the "western betrayal" ( the violation of the allied pacts during the period from the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 through World War II and to the Cold War)
Just to clarify the above for no other reason than I am a Jew.
The persecution began with the Nuremberg Laws of 1935. When denaturalization laws were passed in Nazi Germany. Work camps and a work them to death mentality was applied. However, the "final solution" never occured until after the war had started. The death toll places Jews at 6 million but the Romas, Gay men, Jehovas Witness and other were also killed. This marks the figure as being between 9 million to 11 million.
Once again I'll apologize.. But I'm a jew and I kind of feel obligated to point out that the west did NOT come charging in for a rescue.
------------
But to being on topic.
I do not forsee a cold war.
Instead I forsee the United States becoming another broke super power. The next president of the USA is going to be more concerned about consolidating his power instead of persuing economic interests.
England will face a crisis and be forced to decide if it is part of the european union or not. Equally europe will have to decide if it is possible to define the union by a "core" of nations instead of all en-total.
Considering Australia's economic problems. There will be debate about some form of economic alliance or co-operation amongst commonwealth or anglophone nations. And given that England is now starting to re-insert herself back into the middle east. Great Britan will support and push for such anglo-accords as it views that will give the various arab gouvernments an impression of a unified force. Thereby being able to make greater demands on the various middle eastern nations.
