I doubt Internet Explorer will be discontinued until the day Microsoft sells out completely to a rival company (not likely) or it loses the vast majority of it's market share and goes under. Since the company generates billions of dollars of profits every single year, then its got a fairly powerful money supply to fall back on, and republicize itself if things do start going against it.
It's good news that more people are moving onto Firefox, but estimates about this vary wildly, and I can say with good certainty that the stats in the original post (Firefox - 69%) are not common across the board. I was thinking about this today - if Firefox is to continue to grow in the way it has, it needs to address the education and work markets - it needs to be easily administered centrally and have the ability for certain options (i.e. the options/control panel area of the browser) to be banned for certain users if necessary. If Firefox can do this, then the sky's the limit!
