From what I've been reading Windows is supposed to come out with a new version in 2009, why? Maybe because Vista sucks with all the extra "Are you sure you want to do this?" questions popping up all the time. Are they going to try to include WinFS in this new version and if so is it going to be a total disaster because of it.

Another thing I read is that Microsoft wants to turn to a subscription based process, where, just like the Norton, you buy a yearly subscription instead of out right purchasing the OS. I'd like to hear what people have to say about this, will it be ok if it only costs $50/year or do you think Microsoft will charge more.

Microsoft chargin $50 a year. ha. It'll be more like $50 a week, they suck, apparently they are aiming to release a new OS every 2 years. Why, vista is so bad, I think they should stop completely.

Microsoft has been wanting to go to a subscription based process since Windows 2000. The big companies cried about it and MS backed off. They are looking for a way to stop pirating.

I've got my copies of XP and you know what ??
I'm going to be the old b*stard business man. If it works and we are profitable we don't need to upgrade.

We are still running office 2000 (ok before I got locked out of my office by my partner)
The reason we kept using it is because it did everything we needed it to do.
And second the interface was soo drastically different we would have needed a week to get used to the new set up. And in business a week can be a very long time.

For me I'll keep the processors and disk drives updated. But otherwise microsoft can drop dead;

You probably mean Longhorn Server. Microsoft put out XP in 2002 and Server 2003 in 2003. This is non-news.

And Microsoft says WinFS is scrapped for good. Probably why there's about to be SQL Server 2008!!!

I don't mean longhorn server. According to Maximum PC, if I read the article right, Microsoft is planning on coming out with a major release every 2 years starting soon, and I believe the next OS release is supposed to be in 2009, if I find the article again I'll post a quote.

Really? That would certainly bring them lots of, uh, revenue.

"Don't put that IIS security in yet - we need a reason to make our next release."

If Microsoft starts with a subscription for, I'm moving over to Mac and Linux. I'm getting sick and tired of Windows, and all its crappy updates and such.

Microsoft is not capable of coming out with a major release every two years.

I believe it's currently internally named Windows 7.

I hope they focus on performance more on the visuals. I've seen laptops with Vista which have much better specs than mine (XP), and it takes longer to start up.

I hope Microsoft and hardware companies can collaborate better for the next Windows to get good drivers out sooner. I had a bad experience with trying to install Vista and get all my hardware working last week on my new computer. I won't go into the details, but in the end, I had to go with XP Pro.

Haha, who's not used "I hope" and "Microsoft" in the same sentence before?

i dont know why everybody hates vista so much. ive used it for 9 months and love it. there is not one bit of it i dont like. as for the subscription based service, i dont like the idea of that (unless it can easily be cracked), id much rather make an outright purchase like i have with all my other versions of windows!
