Oh my freaking, um, defendant?
Quote:
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The defendant in a state senator's lawsuit is accused of causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more still. He can be sued in Douglas County, the legislator claims, because He's everywhere.
State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he's trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.
Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

This is also interesting, to me at least, because of the address where it's hosted. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5j...FcTeiB58cfy6Uw Since when did Google get into the news business? Google News has been around forever, but as an aggregation and search engine, not as a distribution outlet. Associated Press is a subdomain of almighty Google?

You have got to be kidding me. Alright, I think it's official, this world is going to hell.
This is worse than the lady who sued McDonalds because her coffee was hot and she spilt it on herself.

This is outright blasphemy and inspired by stupid films like the Da Vinci code and particularly Bruce Almighty.
I wish this sort of thing would go away but sadly it won't. So many things get me depressed about the state of the world these days

Perhaps the Christian God needs to reply to set the record straight?

I caught this story earlier this morning. I understand the point he's trying to make with the lawsuit. He'd be the first to admit it's frivolous and it's really meant to protest another suit the senator thinks is frivolous.
However my first thought when I heard the news was no matter what your theological or philosophical beliefs would you really want to tempt fate.

If you don't believe in God it's a laughable event. If you do believe in God...it's a laughable event...
I'm with Steve on this one.

For totally different reasons.
I read the frivolous suit that made the senator so angry he sued God - a woman is suing the court because she wasn't allowed to use the words "rape" or "victim" in prosecuting the guy who raped her. I don't actually think that's frivolous. And I'm sure God isn't involved. Or maybe I'm just saying that to suck up and get my place in heaven?

I thought the same thing when I read the article. It didn't sound frivolous, but I think the senator saw it that way, because based on her claims judges had already thrown the issue out on several occasions. I think it was more than just being able to use those words, but please don't hold me to that. I do think there are far more frivolous cases filed every year than this one though.

All sounds a bit politicaly correct to me. Anyway you can't sue god! it's rude.
Now santa clause that's a different story - he gives better presents to rich kids you know. He's the one you want to sue.

When people are saying "God", they presume it is their god and not someone else's. Or do they mean a generic god?

Apparently He has.
A response was filed mysteriously - court workers found it when they came in in the morning. It says it's from God responding to the lawsuit, saying that because humans have free will God bears no responsibility for our death and misfortune. It also says Nebraska's courts have no jurisdiction to sue God.

Just like John said. The case now has an all knowing and all powerful defendant.

There's no way the placement of the fan behind the senator's head was an accident. Great shot, considering.

Of all the photos that were most likely taken, that one was a miracle.

Of course it was a miracle. Look who's involved in this case. On a legal note can God technically be sworn in as a witness? Wouldn't that make God both judge and executioner over the swearing in? Or is it only a problem when you complete the triumvirate and are the jury too?

Well it does sound like a conflict of interest when you put it like that... He hasn't been doing so well in the courts lately, though.
