Hi

Can anubody help me.... Please.

My PC has been running like a dog for a while and I decided to try to fix it. It also seemed to have the annoying habit of McAfee keep popping up to tell me that my subscription had expired. Somebody told me that I needed to uninstall and then re-install the new version. I've done this, but somehow in the meantime got some garbage on my PC.

I have my homepage set to google.co.uk, but whenever I try to go to it by any means I ge tdirect to this stuped page {link removed} - I don't suggest clicking it unless something happens to you. Help - how can I get rid of this annoying thing???

I've also been trying to clean some files off of my PC - loads of Pictures and a few programmes that I don't use, and now, when I boot up, I get something called Sonic Activiation Module trying to install itself, getting stuck when it can't find the CD, and not letting me cancel it in anyway. Help, help, help.

Thank you in advance to you clever people out there.

You won't like this. But you need to nuke your system and start over.

McCaffee is famous for that. You get a free 60 days or whatever when you buy a computer, then it stops updating you and tells you to fork over your credit card ever 5 minutes. It's a freaking pain in the rear end. At that point, it stops downloading new virus defs, so if some kid finds a new way to hack into your computer, it won't help you.

Sonic Activation Module is familiar, but I can't place it. Some kind of "make sure he paid for it" thing.

Anyway, your computer is all dorked up. You want to copy all of your documents off it and then format your drive, and reinstall Windows from scratch.

You might wanna use the free antivirus so you stay current without the nagging.

A great free anti-virus is AVG (google it), will update for latest defs etc and won't stall or crash your pc!

I use AVG Pro (paid version) and I recommend using paid antiviruses against free ones, unless you are seriously in debt and cannot afford the £20 ($40) for the antivirus in the first place, in which case you probably should sell your computer and use the money for something constructive

I also use AVG, I use the free version and it has worked better for me than a lot of the ones I've paid for in the past (Norton, McAfee). My school (UCI) gives me McAfee for free and I still prefer AVG.
