Which do you guys use? Do you keep uploading your pages to a remote server to see what it looks like or do you run a local server on the computer that you develop on?

For the most part, it's remote. I haven't really got into the local server thingy ma-bob. I've downloaded it all, but I haven't really used it

Local...

I do everything I can on my local server, and use SVN to manage the revisions.
When I reach a milestone, I do a svn update on the prod server.
It allows me to stay up to date in any situations, and to be able to rollback to a previous state if anything goes real wrong.

I use local for development. My remote is Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL. My local Windows XP, Apache, PHP, MySQL through XAMPP. I also have a Linux server setup on my local network.

depends im (alowly) developing a CMS for a charity website, and when its finsihed i will be putting it up for downlaod, in exchange for a doantion to the charity (if your interested in contributing PELASE contact me)

and i am developing that locally, but usually its far easier to edit and save as its only a couple of seconds for most files to uplaod so it not noticable differance form flicking a tab to jsut uplaoding

Normally remote. It's something that I've always done and tends to be a habbit.

Just an addition....

I tend now to edit the file locally through a vpn.
Which makes me de-facto editing the online file....

I could say it's more "remote" than "local", but it sure is handy.

Aptana has a script to upload a file on save and UltraEdit will allow to edit the file on the remote server.

How about the manager at a facility I used to work for. He had me show him how to place links on a page where the text doesn't show.

Then one day some people came in from HQ and hauled of his computer. Seems the guy was dumb enough to host his sight on the company computer in his office. Of course it contained homemade pics and videos
