I have heard that Google is feeling the threat from growing popularity of Facebook and hence they are planning a killer strategy against facebook. They are planning to open their APIs for developers to develop plug ins for their applications which would allow the developers to send and fetch data from google's social platforms like orkut! If Facebook is 90% open Google wants to be 100% open.

Threat from Facebook? That they might price themselves into oblivion? You should read some of Fake Steve's ranting on them.

google are big enough to buy them out if they wanted too. if they saw them as that much of a threat they would offer the owners of facebook a silly amount of money to buy them out. 2billion $ is like pocket change to google

$2 billion is pocket change to Facebook, too. They think their site is worth $60 billion. They have 40 million users, and claim that each of them is worth more than $1,000. Not sure how, but hey.

The Facebook guy, he's a funny one. Someone offers him $10 billion for his site, so he thinks "Well if they're willing to pay $10 billion it's because they think they'll make more than that, so I better charge $15 billion." Then when someone meets the new demand, you go back to line 1.
